Medical Qualifications: Doctor Solanke did his medical graduation (MBBS) from Topiwala National Medical College and B.Y.L Nair Ch. Hospital, Mumbai.
He pursued his post-graduation in Orthopaedic Surgery as a DNB from Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Chennai.
He successfully completed the M.S. Ramaiah fellowship in Complex Hip and Knee Arthroplasty under the guidance of Dr K. Sudhir Reddy from Hyderabad.
He has worked as a senior resident and a consultant at B.D.B.A. Hospital, Kandivali, Mumbai. He has published numerous research papers in National and International Journals.
Speciality and field of Interest: He specialises in Joint preservation and Joint replacement surgery. He also emphasises the preservation of patients’ own joints whenever feasible and practices salvaging techniques to achieve the said goal. He has performed several hundred primary as well as revision hip, knee, shoulder and elbow joint replacements with excellent results.
He is extremely well versed in comprehensive Trauma management including fixation of complex intra-articular fractures, pelvi-acetabular fractures, and paediatric fractures. He also manages congenital and acquired deformities, orthopaedic oncology, sports injuries, and spinal pathologies.
The X factor in knee replacement surgery: he employs a rarely performed and technically demanding 'subvastus approach' technique which makes the whole procedure and post-operative rehabilitation significantly less painful as opposed to the conventionally performed 'medial parapatellar approach’. Also, he utilises the 'cruciate retaining' method of knee replacement, which allows more natural kinematics of the knee joint post-surgery, in turn making the patient feel more 'native' about his/her implanted knee joint. The added benefit of a computerised navigation system increases the precision and helps in achieving perfect implantation and ligament balancing.
