Histopathology
Facilities of Histopathology: fluid cytology FNAC and Frozen section are available.
Procedure Details:
Small, medium and large Specimens (including oncosurgical) biopsy FNAC and frozen section samples are received in the laboratory.
In histopathology, they are grossed and processed. Blocks are prepared and cutting is done by technician. Thin sections are mounted on glass slide. H and E staining is performed. Slides get ready for reporting. Reporting is done as per guidelines .Reports are delivered to patients in proper turn around time. In cytology, fluid samples are centrifuged and sediment is mounted on glass slide and stained by H and E technique. Unstaned FNAC smears are also processed by H and E technique. Frozen sections are processed on cryostat and reported within TAT of 30 minutes.
Procedure Statistics:
- Monthly Samples received in lab: 170-190.
- Yearly Workload – 1700-1900.
- From April 2017 nearly 11000 cases reported.
- Daily 40-50 sections are processed and same number of slides are prepared.
- Monthly Samples received in lab: 150-180.
- Yearly Workload - 1700-1800.
- From April 2017 nearly 10500 cases reported.
- Daily 40-50 section are processed and same number of slides are prepared.
Equipment Details:
- Fumehood (SS) is used for grossing specimens.
- Tissue processor of Medimeas – It is automated microprocessor with 16 hour programme, loaded with glass beakers containing formalin, xylene, alcohol in different concentrations and paraffin wax.
- Leica microtome is used to take thin sections of blocks of thickness 5 microns.
- Medimeas semiautomated embedding station is used for preparation of paraffin blocks.
- Leica Hot water bath is used for spreading sections and removing creases and folds of the sections.
- Medimeas Autostainer is used for staining slides by H and E technique.
