The Department of Rheumatology specialises in the diagnosis and management of disorders affecting the joints, muscles, bones and connective tissues, including autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Our care covers a wide spectrum of diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gout, Vasculitis, Sjogren’s Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. We focus on early diagnosis, long-term disease control and improved quality of life for patients living with chronic rheumatic conditions.
Procedure Details:
- Rheumatology Consultation & Disease Assessment: Detailed clinical evaluation supported by disease activity scoring tools to plan personalised treatment.
- Joint Aspiration & Injection (Arthrocentesis): Removal of fluid from a swollen joint for diagnosis, and intra-articular injection of medication to relieve pain and inflammation.
- Autoimmune & Serological Testing: Specialised blood investigations including ANA, RA Factor, Anti-CCP, ANCA, complement levels and HLA-B27 to confirm autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
- Biologic & DMARD Therapy: Administration of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs and biologic agents to slow disease progression and prevent joint damage.
- Musculoskeletal Ultrasound: Imaging of joints and soft tissues to detect early synovitis, effusions and tendon involvement.
- BMD – DEXA Scan: Bone mineral density testing for early detection and monitoring of osteoporosis.
- Multidisciplinary Care: Coordinated management with Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy, Nephrology and Dermatology for complex systemic conditions.
